Import People Data

You can import CSV files to automatically create accounts for People in Tilma.

Before you Begin

  • Make sure the file you want to upload has the First Name and Last name as separate columns.
  • Contact Tilma Support if you would like to import any fields that are not listed below.
    • First Name*
    • Last Name*
    • Email
    • Secondary Email
    • Address - Number
    • Address - Street
    • Address - City
    • Address - State/Province
    • Address - Country
    • Address - Zip/Postal Code
    • Home Phone Number
    • Cell Phone Number
    • Envelope Number (parishes)
  • Review your organization's Welcome Email. This will automatically be sent to everyone you are about to import.

To begin, hover over the main side navigation and click on "People".

IMPORTANT: Importing CSV files of people will create a new account for each user. Those people will automatically receive a notification email, welcoming them to their new account on their organization’s website.

Learn how to edit your Welcome Email

The welcome email ensures the users have been properly notified of being added to a mailing list and have the opportunity to confirm their agreement to receive email communication from the organization. To confirm, the recipient clicks the link in the email which will prompt them to set their password and confirm their subscription settings.

These confirmation steps ensure that your organization's site does not get flagged inadvertently for sending spam, which will affect your ability to send emails out to your entire organization. If you already have confirmation from these people that they want to be on your mailing list, you can ask Tilma Support to do the import on your behalf -- they are able to bypass the confirmation process.

Upload File

1. Click the import button next to the large blue “New Person” button.

2. Once the Bulk Member importer module slides in on the left, click the “Import and Invite” button.

3. Upload your data file - can be a .csv, .tsv, .xls, .xlsx, .xml file with any set of columns as long as it has 1 record per row.

4. The sheet you uploaded will appear as a preview. Click continue at the bottom of the screen.

5. Tilma will look at the columns of data and attempt to match them to one of these data fields:

  • First Name*
  • Last Name*
  • Email
  • Secondary Email
  • Address - Number
  • Address - Street
  • Address - City
  • Address - State/Province
  • Address - Country
  • Address - Zip/Postal Code
  • Home Phone Number
  • Cell Phone Number
  • Envelope Number

Click "Continue" when you are finished.

6. You can review all of the data to make sure that the automated matching is correct, and that the data will be “Mapped” to the right place. Click "Save and finalize" if everything looks good to go.

7. You can navigate to any other place in Tilma while this import is happening -- this will not interrupt the import process. And you can come back to People to see how the import process is progressing.
